Cellular Tracking Technologies has been an absolutely critical partner since we launched Project SNOWstorm in the winter of 2013-14, with the goal of understanding the winter ecology of snowy owls. Since then, we’ve used CTT transmitters on more than 75 snowy owls in 14 states and provinces. CTT has been incredibly responsive, working with us in an ongoing, adaptive manner to figure out the best approaches in terms of transmitter design, duty cycles and similar issues for a species that had never been tracked before by GSM. They’ve consistently pushed the envelope in terms of onboard instrumentation like temperature sensors and accelerometers, always trying to increase the kinds of data we can collect without dramatically increasing weight or cost. We simply couldn’t do the work we do without CTT.
